Medicolegal Consultations

Neurosurgery Associates was founded by Dr. Saris in 1998. Dr. Saris has been in practice in New England since 1987, and in Rhode Island since 1993.

There is a fundamental difference between a private practice and an academic practice. In private practice, the fundamental responsibility is the care of patients. These neurosurgeons devote themselves to seeing patients in the clinic, performing surgery in the operating room, and staying abreast of advances nationally and internationally in their specialty.

In academic practice there are divided responsibilities between patient care and professional advancement within the medical school and in national societies. This often involves the creation of a laboratory, or participation in national groups that test different approaches to clinical problems. In academic practice, much of the surgery is performed in conjunction with residents who are generally 2-5 years out from medical school.
THE PHYSICIAN

Dr. Stephen Saris is the senior member of the group, having finished his Neurosurgical training at
Duke Medical Center in 1985.
